A memorial service and honor guard was held March 22, 2008 for Aubrey Webb Hanes. He passed away of complications from undiscovered cancer.
Aubrey was born March 27, 1926 in Williamsport, Tenessee to Robert and Annie Puckett Hanes. He was 8th of 10 children; all but one lived to adulthood.
At the age of 14, Aubrey and his twin sister, Audrey, came to Oregon by train. They lived and worked with sister Era Good and husband Glenn on their turkey farm in Fall Creek, Oregon. Aubrey left school at the age of 17 to join the Marines where he served as an aircraft mechanic and soldier in the South Pacific. He returned a decorated soldier in 1945 and finished his high school education.

After traveling for 6 years, he married June B. Wolfe of Blachly, Oregon on February 3, 1951. Aubrey had a long career in log trucking, rock crushing and road construction that spanned 56 years. He was involved in the building of Lookout Point Dam and owned 1/3 of Flintstone Crushing and Construction for a time. He enjoyed and excelled at bidding projects for Flintstone, and later for his own company.He loved his family deeply.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, June. Also preceding him were his parents, Robert and Annie Hanes, and 8 of 9 siblings: Loy M. Hanes, Era Pauline Hanes Good, Robert Wilkes Hanes, Mildred Letitia Hanes Hassell, Clyde Puckett Hanes, Mitchell Eugene Hanes, Bernard Vestel Hanes, and Lucius Edwin Hanes.

Survivors include twin sister Audrey Welch of Junction City; 3 daughters, Nancy Hanes of Pleasant Hill, Sherry Smith and husband Stephen of Creswell, Chrissy Hanes McCallum of Eugene; 3 grandchildren, Joel Smith of Salem, Stephanie Conner Francis of Bend, and Mitchell McCallum of Springfield; one great grandchild, Ethan Conner of Bend; numerous nieces and nephews.

Aubrey shared 5 wonderful years of marriage to his second wife Marcella Vandegriffe. He was a good provider, husband, and father. He loved to give and never met a stranger. He is deeply missed.
