Born to Daniel Peterson Dahlberg and Sarah Christina Lindberg, John emigrated with his parents to the United States in 1923 and lived in Chicago until finding work with General Motors in Flint, Michigan, where he worked for 38 years, retiring in 1966. He was a resident of Flint and Genesee County for 60 years. John was a skilled carpenter and built his own home. He married Jane Galloway Sinclair c. 1938, and they had one son, Harold John Dahlberg. John married Lillian Ida Maki in 1947.
