Enlisted for the duration of the war on 6/30/1861 at Fredericksburg, Va., he was mustered into Captain R. Snowden Andrews' Company, Maryland Flying Artillery, as a Private. (He was initially assigned to Company B, Artillery Battalion, Hampton Legion, SC. He was added to Capt. Andrew's Maryland Battery 25 Jun 1862.)
Killed In Action in the 2nd Battle of Fredericksburg, VA.

The 1st Maryland Light Artillery Company [also called the Maryland Flying Battery] was organized at Richmond, Virginia, in July, 1861 with men from Baltimore and the Eastern Shore.
