Stella Gertrude Alvey, 71, of Columbus Convalescent Center, died Friday, Feb. 19, 1993. Mrs. Alvey was a homemaker. Funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Bond-Mitchell Serenity Chapel in Nashville, with the Rev. David Ison officiating. Calling will be 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Christiansburg Cemetery. Mrs. Alvey was born Oct. 23, 1921, in Brown County, the daughter of Arnold and Susie Carmichael Hatton. She married William Alvey, who died in 1983. Survivors include sons, Ora, Jim, Sam and Art Alvey of Brown County, and Ron and Paul Alvey of Columbus; daughters, Corene Greathouse of Brown County and Nellie McQueary, Annie Purdue, Phyllis Garard and Nora Sebastian of Columbus; a brother, Albert Hatton of Columbus; a sister, Vivian Gill of Brown County; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William Alvey Jr., and a grandson.
