DIED OF WOUNDS RECEIVED ON 05-19-1864 @ HARRIS FARM VIRGINIA NEAR SPOTSYLVANIA COURTHOUSE.

Mustered in May 10, 1861. Was taken prisoner of war at Front Royal, Virginia on May 23, 1862 and escaped.

The battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse was fought May 8-21, 1864 in the Rapidan-Rappahannock River area of central Virginia. The most intense fighting occurred on May 12, 1864 in a 23 hour battle which also included vigorous hand to hand fighting.

Thomas Hamilton's father was James Hamilton from London, his mother Mary Eaton from Ireland. They married 17 April 1830 in Londonderry, migrated to America and had two children in New York City, Margaret Jane and Pvt Thomas E. Hamilton. Mary Eaton Hamilton can be found living with Thomas' sister, Margaret and husband John Noah Reynolds in 1870 in York County, Pennsylvania. His sister's ID is 230720251
