"LOVING SON, BROTHER, UNCLE AND BUDDY"

Max was born in Cleveland County, Oklahoma in 1929. He moved with his mother and stepfather to California in 1936. He was raised in the Rosedale and Greeley areas and went to the local schools and to Kern County Union High School. When he was seventeen, he joined the Marine Corp. After he was discharged from the service, he held many different jobs such as, high school bus driver, he hauled hay, worked in the oilfields, drove a big rig and worked on an offshore drilling rig in Louisiana. After that he moved back to Bakersfield. Seven years ago, he met his best friend, Roberta Maples, at a Senior Citizens group function and they discovered they loved to dance together. It was one of the highlights of his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gus Blevens; mother, Georgia Holsonbake; and stepfather, Luther Holsonbake. He will be missed by his special friend, Roberta; his two brothers, Luke and sister-in-law Terri Holsonbake of Arkansas, and David and sister-in-law Barbara Holsonbake of Atascadero; three sisters, Freda Esposito, Lynette Perry, and Janine and brother-in-law Clark Layshot, all of Bakersfield; and his Aunt Vada Bishop of Stockton. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Before his passing, Max gave his heart to the Lord and we know that he is in God's hands.
The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the personnel from Hoffmann Hospice for their care of Max in those final days. His services will be held at the Bakersfield National Cemetery with military honors on Monday, Nov. 1, at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hoffmann Hospice. www.bakersfield.com/obits
