George Hickman (also listed as Hickam) Dowell was the son of George Weir Dowell & Lizzie B. Madden Dowell.

George had 4 siblings: Celia, Alva, Luther & Virgil. After his mother died, his father remarried: Louisa Cahall Gooch FAG #28061826.

He was married to Mollie May Simon, the dau of John Simon and Louisa Daniels Simon Witt.

George took his own life on February 24, 1930 while living at the home of his father (Joplin Globe, dated Feb 25, 1930). According to newspaper accounts, George suffered from "chronic rheumatism" and was in great pain and bedridden.

Wife Mollie is also buried here at Carterville Cemetery as are his two small daughters: Ruby Lucille and "Velva" (name on her death cert. is very difficult to read). George & Mollie also had a son, Orville Raymond Dowell (1915-197).

Missouri death certificate #5363 lists cause of death as "a suicide" and clearly states he was buried at the Carterville Cemetery. I have copies of several old newspaper that give details confirming his death and that an inquest was held.
