Mrs. Alice Ashburn
Harriett Alice Ashburn of 530 East Third Avenur, was born in Bennington, Kan., April 21, 1885, and died July 22, 1969, at the Anderson County Hospital, at the age of 84 years. She was the daughter of Samuel and Elmira Best. When a small child, she moved with her parents to Anderson County, where she lived the remainder of her life. In 1916, she married Jason Ashburn who passed in 1951. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Stephens of Coffeyville, Kan., and Mrs. Stella Chitwood, Downey, Calif., and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning July 24, at Farris Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. F. Vernon Dillon of the First United Methodist Church. The organist, Mrs. O.D. Meisenheimer, played "Take My Hand, Precious Lord: as the special musical number at the close of the service. Casket bearers were: Mark Payne, Joe Baldridge, John Wayne Baldridge, Harold Hahn, Merritt Hiner and Guy Trimmel. Burial was in the Garnett Cemetery.
Among the relatives from out of town who came for the services were her nieces, Mrs. Mary Lock, Rushville, MO; and Mrs. Nola Kimball, Altoona, IA; John Richard Loch, Atchinson, Kan.; and Bob Loch, Kansas City, MO; Mr. and Mrs. Joe McCarthy and children, Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Mahon, Shawnee; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Ashburn, Kansas City.
