Donald Wayne Hoewing, 51, of Canton, died July 5, 1997, in his home near Canton. Born October 23, 1945, at Keokuk, Iowa, he was a son of Jacob Wilbert and Leota Reid Hoewing. He married Sharon Honaker, and later married Yvonne Phillips Kearns. She survives. Mr. Hoewing was a lockman at Lock & Dam #20 at Canton, owned and operated Hoewing & Winters Trucking in Canton, and had been a farmer and mail carrier at Canton. He was a member of Bluff Springs United Methodist Church near Canton and a member of the Harley owners group at Hannibal, F. O. E. #1800 at Canton, and the N. R. A. Survivors include two sons, Scott Hoewing and Mark Hoewing, both of Canton,; one daughter Amy Hoewing of Canton; one grandson Austin Hoewing of Canton; one granddaughter Bailey Hoewing, a stepdaughter Bridie Brooks, Canton, a step-granddaughter Tatum Marie Kearns, aunts, uncles and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and a stepdaughter Brandie Lynn June Kearns. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, at Davis Funeral Home in Canton officiated by Rev. David D. Landwehr. Music was by Jo Cook and Thorton Barton, III. Pallbearers were Jim Farris, Larry Raleigh, Jake Murphy, Rock Schaller, Steve Owsley, Terry Winters and Jeff Shuman. Interment was in Bluff Springs Cemetery near Canton. Memorials may be made to Amy Hoewing Educational Fund and left with Davis Funeral Home.
