Chester C. Alderman, 81, of San Antonio, Texas, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at the Veterans Hospital in Kerrville, Texas. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kenedy City Cemetery in Kenedy, Texas. Mr. Alderman was born Jan. 22, 1920, in Electra, Texas, a son of the late Wiley Alderman and Nettie Alderman Miller. He was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in China at the outbreak of World War II. He was captured by the Japanese on the island of Corregidor and survived the Bataan Death March. He was interned at Umeda Bunsho, Osaka, Japan, and was released on Aug. 25, 1945. Upon his return to the United States, he entered Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, and earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology. He accepted a job at Kelly AFB in San Antonio, Texas, where he worked as an industrial psychologist for 31 years and retired in 1983. He remained active in ex-. POW veterans' activities. He . was first married to the late Mary Hannaford Alderman. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary L. Alderman of San Antonio, TX; a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Lois Ann) Spears of Orangeburg, SC; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ron (Susan) Barrett of Kiawah Island, SC; a stepson, Charles N. Roper of Buda, Texas; nine grandchildren, including Mrs. Todd (Katie) Owens of Branchville, SC and Ernest Lee Kirk Jr. of Rowesville, SC; and nine great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to the national headquarters, EX-POWs, 3201 East Pioneer Parkway, Suite 40, Arlington, Texas 76010.
