Mrs. Sarah E. Bancroft, daughter of Andrew N. and Jane Masten, was born December 11, 1844, In Kingston, N.Y., and died at her home in Osceola February 6, 1906, aged sixty-one years, one month and twenty-five days. She was educated in a private school in Kingston, N.Y., and moved with her parents to Elkhart county in 1863. She was married to Zelotes Bancroft June 1, 1863, and he died on March 10, 1895. Seven Children were born to this union: William, Archie, Grace, Zelia, Jennie, George and a child who died in infancy. Three survive, Mrs. E.M. Long, Jennie and George, of Osceola; also two sisters, Mrs. Roy of Elkhart, Mrs. Jessie Kirkpatrick of Osceola, and one brother, A. Masten of Elkhart. She united with the Methodist church at Osceola in November, 1863. She was a very kind and devoted mother, always thoughtful of others' comfort not matter whether high or low, rich or poor, if they came to her for aid, they always found a helping hand. She was also a very devoted member of the Ladies' Aid society. Funeral service will be held at her home, Friday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Charles Murry of Waterloo officiating. Interment at the Osceola cemetery.
