Daughter of Sarah Catherine Haymaker 1843–1866, who died in child birth and father unknown. Granddaughter of Adam Haymaker 1813–1890 and Mary Ann Blount/Blunt 1820–1846 Sinking Creek, Craig County, Virginia.

Sarah's full siblings died as infants leaving only her father's second marriage children. Sarah passed away after Laura's birth. Laura's father is still unknown.
