Joaquin Leonard Bamford Jr., 49 of Springfield has died at his home of kidney failure, the result of lingering injuries from an accident.
Born in Eureka, California, to Joaquin and Helen Hickethier Bamford, he had lived in the community for 40 years. Once a boys basketball coach at Marcola High School, he had been a timber faller for the Enoch-Skirven Company and most recently, a minister at the Springfield Faith Center. On August 11, 1963, he married Joan Kelly in Reno, Nevada. From 1965 to 1978, he served in the Army Reserves.
Survivors include his wife, Joni; two sons; Travis Bamford and his wife, Toni of Eugene and Jeff Bamford and his wife Tricia, of Cottage Grove; his mother; Helen Everett and her husband, Earl, of Eugene; and his father; Joaquin Bamford Sr. of Eureka, California.
Visitation is scheduled today from 8 a.m. to noon at Buell Chapel, with the services to follow at 2 p.m. at the Springfield Faith Center, 600 Hayden Bridge Way. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery in Mohawk. Followers are welcome, although memorial contributions should be made the the Sacred Heart General Hospital dialysis unit, P.O. Box 10905, Eugene, Oregon 97440. Buell Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
