Ethel Leatherwood was the daugthter of Dennie E. Leatherwood, Sr., born in Texas, and Mary E. Morehead, born in Mississippi. In the 1930 census she was listed as "Ethel M. Leatherwood", and was residing in Anderson County, Texas with her parents and a brother Wilburn T. Leatherwood, age 14. She also had a brother Dennie E. Leatherwood, Jr., married and living in his own household in Anderson County in 1930. According to the Guiceland Cemetery records, another daughter was born into her family, Ovie Dene Leatherwood, on January 5, 1914 and died on Februry 12, 1914.

Ethel married Thomas Mitchell (T.M.) Campbell and had one son Cecil Weldon Campbell born April 14, 1940. T. M. Campbell passed away December 7, 1982, and is buried at Grapeland Parker Memorial.

Ethel died August 24, 1945, in Palestine, Anderson County, at the age of 34.
