Dr. Branch T. Archer received a medical degree in 1808 from the University of Pennsylvania. He practice medicine in Virginia. Dr. Archer represented Powhattan County in the General Assembly of Virginia during the session of 1819-1820
Dr. Archer went to Texas and became an advocate for Texas independance from Mexico. He was elected president of the Consulation of 1835. He served in the First Congress of the new republic of Texas. He was Speaker of the House of Representatives during the second session. Dr. Archer served as Secretary of War for the Republic of Texas in 1840-1841.
