Police Officer John Abraham was killed in an automobile accident on Teaneck Road at approximately 2:00 am.
Officer Abraham was on patrol on Teaneck Road between Holland Terrace and Bennett Street when his patrol car collided with a utility pole, causing him to suffer fatal injuries.
He was transported to Holy Name Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
Officer Abraham had served with the Teaneck Police Department for 17 years. He is survived by his wife Martha, and 5-year-old son, Jake.
Visiting hours for Officer John Abraham will take place on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Volk-Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road. The funeral service was originally scheduled for Grace Lutheran Church, but will now be held at 11 a.m. at St. Anastasia's Roman Catholic Church, 1095 Teaneck Road. Interment will immediately follow at George Washington Cemetery, Century Road, Paramus.
