Eugenia (Jean) Freeland, 93, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. Per Eugenia's request, her body was donated to Des Moines University. A Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2010 at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines.
Jean was born September 8, 1917 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Homer and Birdie (Bushe) Yazel. She had formerly lived in Fort Dodge and West Des Moines. Jean was a member of the West Des Moines Christian Church. She married Marvin Freeland on October 15, 1938.
Jean is survived by her two daughters, Marilyn McCarthy of Ankeny and Sandra Koll of Des Moines; four grandsons, Dennis (Cindy) McCarthy, Tom McCarthy, Jeffrey Koll and Jerald (Amber) Koll; five great-grandchildren, James McCarthy, Robert McCarthy, Kirsti Koll, Alexis Koll and Campbell Koll; sister, Beryl Beck of Waukee; sister-in-law, Geneva Yazel of Smithville, Missouri and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Freeland; brother, Homer Yazel, Jr. and sister, Betty Strickland.
