Sam was a rural mail carrier in Independence, WV for 20 years. Delivered mail to Preston and Taylor Counties. He was well known and respected by everyone living in the area. He would even deliver food and run errands for people living on his mail route.

Son of Charles Minor Armstrong & Mary Ann Radtka Armstrong. After moving to Ohio he worked at Mike's Resturant in the kitchen. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. You could take him out of WV but you
never could take WV out of him. He is at rest now in the
area he loved so much. "Pappy" was a wonderful man, you
couldn't ask for anyone better. He is missed.

When he was in high school there were a shortage of teachers due to the war. Sam took a test and got his teachers certificate, taught school for a few years and then went back to high school and graduated and got his high school diploma.

Sam married Ada Pearl Ball on June 8, 1929. They had 6 children, Samuel Jr., Charles Robert, John David, James Marlow, Harry Dale and Linda Sue Armstrong.
