Wesley Douglas Lyles was the son of Alfred Taylor Lyles (1828-1916) who was born in Allen County, Kentucky and died in Macon County, Missouri; and Mary Frances (Young) Lyles (1836- ) who was also born in Kentucky and died in Macon County, Missouri.

Wesley had the following known siblings:

Enoch Newton Lyles 1863 –
Ella Lyles 1865 –
Emma Taylor Lyles 1867 – 1953
Mary F. Lyles 1876 –

Wesley's parents were married in Montgomery County, Illinois where they lived for several years. Wesley and 5 other siblings were born there. Between 1865 and 1867, the Lyles family moved from Illinois to Missouri where they settled into farming in Macon County.

On January 28, 1885, Wesley married 17-year-old Linda May Gates in Macon County, Missouri. By 1900, they had ventured west, living in Nebraska and Oregon, but returned to Macon County, Missouri by 1910 where they spent the rest of their lives.

They had three known children:

Grover Ellsworth Lyles 1886 – 1931
Everett Willliam Lyles, Sr. 1894 – 1971
Alfred S. Lyles 1904 –

Wesley died in 1936 and Linda in 1961.
