James D. McDonnell

Was born in Scotland in 1810 the youngest son of a Banker, But according to Scotish law he would inherit little from his fathers estate, So in the early 1840s he came to America to seek his fame & fortune. First to Penn. were he opened up a small Business supplying the local farmers with there needs in equipment and such. He Married his wife Amella in 1847. Then with the Gold rush of 1849 in CA. He packed up his Home & Wife and went out west. He Settled in Nevada in the mid 1850s Were he Ran a Dry Goods store were he did quite well for himself. His Beloved Wife Amella Passed away on Feb.8th 1864 He was so heart broken he had A CA. Stone maker make the largest Family Memorial in the Gold Hill Cemetery in her memory.
He himsely passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long illness (Cancer ?) on Nov.20 1877 and is now buried next to his Beloved Amelia. The attached photo of James C-1860s ic courtesy of Raymond Bell of Carson City who has the McDonnell family photo album.
