Clela was a kindergarten teacher and called Mrs. Dal by her students. She was also an active member of the Evangelical Free Church in Tumwater, Washington. After her retirement and the death of her husband Clifford, she went to Pakistan to teach 3rd and 4th grade at the Murree Christian School in Jhika Gali, Murree, Pakistan. She returned home once to visit her children and many grandchildren. She had some health problems, but also still cherished a desire to continue her mission work in Pakistan. She requested that her family not assume the expense of returning her back home for burial.
