He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1855. A Physician that was appointed Assistant Surgeon of Second Virginia Infantry on 17 May 1861. By 1863 he was Chief Surgeon of the Artillery of the Second Corps, ANV. In January 1864, he received a Commendation from General Long for his administration of that Department. In August of 1864 he found time to marry Lottie Alexander, but soon returned to the field, and after another commendation, surrendered at Appomattox with the boys. After that he practiced in Charles Town, then Baltimore.
