After he came home from the military he settled in San Diego,California.. In 1989 he relocated in Eugene, Oregon
where he lived until he died.
He is survived by his son David.

Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene for James Henry "Smitty" Smith of Eugene, who
died Oct. 18 of atherosclerosis. He was 65.
He was born Dec. 29, 1944, in Charlestown, Mass., to James and Ann McAskill
Smith.
He served in the Navy in Vietnam. He worked in management in the materials
field.
Survivors include a son, David of Veneta; a brother, Billy of Winchester,
Calif.; two sisters, Joan Kowitzke of Eugene and Judy Ulibarri of San Diego; his
domestic partner of 16 years, Cecelia Lane; and one grandchild.
