United States Navy Four-Star Admiral. A 1927 graduate of the US Naval Academy, he was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Sharp planned the invasion of Inchon during Korean War. He was Commander in Chief of the US Pacific Fleet (1963 to 1964) and the US Pacific Command (1964 to 1968). During his career he was awarded the Navy Distinguished Service Medal (with Gold Star), Army Distinguished Service Medal, two Silver Stars and two Bronze Stars. Author of the book "Strategy for Defeat: Vietnam in Retrospect" (1978).
