Torpedomans Mate Chief Harry Morris was born in New York City. He was married to Cecil and and two daughters, one named Ruth and the other Mildred. He joined the navy 3 April 1903 as an apprentice boy. In those days young boys could join the Navy with their parent's permission. He toured with Teddy Roosevelt's Great White Fleet in the early 1900's and was stationed on the U.S.S. Kearsarge. He was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in 1919.
From December 1941 through February 1942 he was a member of the Underwater Demolition Team after Pearl Harbor where he was part of the salvage crew that raised all but two of the vessels sank in Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack.
During his later years he was stationed in San Diego and was the liaison between Shore Patrol and the California Courts. He retired from the navy 31 January 1958. He remained in San Diego where he passed away in 1974.

In 1937 the U.S. Navy classified him as an "old timer" and yet he continued to serve for another 20 years. He was stationed on battleships, cruisers, torpedo destroyers, and submarines. He also served in the "Great White Fleet" from 1907-1908, a US Navy program fostered by then President Teddy Roosevelt. The Great White Fleet was a worldwide round the world cruise performed by 16 US Navy battleships of the Atlantic Fleet. Chief Morris was the founder of the Great White Fleet Association which held annual reunion dinners to commemorate the cruise at the U. S. Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego.
He was awarded medals from nearly every country in the world and made Chief in 1919. During WWII, he was 55 years of age when he was part of a crew to help raise all but two of the vessels lost at Pearl Harbor.
