COLUMBUS, GA- Mr. Ernest Harold Henderson, 79, of Columbus, GA. passed away Saturday December 19, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Wednesday December 23, 2009 at Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum with the Rev. Gregory Dean officiating. Entombment will follow at the mausoleum according the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
Mr. Henderson was born May 30, 1930 in Rochelle, GA, to the late Joe B. Henderson and Jewell Rhodes Henderson. Mr. Henderson graduated from Glynn Academy in Brunswick, GA. in 1949. After high school graduation, he then moved to Washington, DC where he worked for the FBI. He then served his country honorably in the U.S. Army . Mr. Henderson graduated from Georgia State University in 1960 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration.
After graduation from college, he then attended the Atlanta Law School. Mr. Henderson was the past President of the Savannah Claims Association, Past President of the Columbus Claims Association, Insurance Arbitration Forums, Member of the Free Masons for over 50 years, and also Charter Member and President of the Shaw High School Booster Club. His hobbies included reading, golfing, gardening, high school sports. He enjoyed spending time woodworking.
Survivors include: his wife, Shirley Ann Henderson, Columbus, GA; his mother, Jewel Rhodes Henderson; two sons, Glenn Henderson and his wife Maryleta Henderson, Scott Henderson; daughter, Melodie Ann Reed; granddaughter, Melissa Reed; grandsons, Carter Henderson and Nicholas Henderson; two sisters, Johnnie Slaton, and Vickie Sykes; also a grand niece Autumn Reed.
