Walhalla – James Edward Sweat, 69, husband of Mary Ann Smith Sweat, of 188-A Avalon Dr., died Monday, July 28, 2008 at Oconee Medical Center.

Born in Laurens to the late Henry Workman and Virginia Hovis Sweat, he was a retired painter and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Surviving in addition to his wife are sons Thomas Jeffcoat of Lexington, Will Corbin of Anderson and James Sweat of Walhalla, daughters Margaret McAlister and Tammy McAlister both of West Union, step mother Anna Koon of West Columbia, SC, brother Henry Sweat of Bradley, SC and sister Bonny Jeanne Sweat of West Columbia, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, a son, Henry Workman Sweat, and daughter, Dorothy Cooper, predecease him.

Funeral services will be 11 am, Thursday, July 31, 2008 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted. The family is at the home of his daughter, Tammy McAlister, 226 Mtn. Springs Rd., West Union. A message of condolence may be written to the family by visiting www.sandiferfuneralhome.com.
