Professional Matador. José Gómez Ortega was a professional Spanish matador who used the professional name of "Joselito." He was a prodigy and a torero in 1908 and later toured Spain as a member of a children's bullfighting group. In October of 1912, he became the youngest man to ever receive the title of matador. It was widely known that he had a running rivalry with another famous bullfighter, Juan Belmonte from 1914 until 1920. Both of them are credited with revolutionizing bullfighting and creating the standards by which all other bullfighters are judged. Both matadors appeared in the bullring on May 16, 1920, yet it was there that Joselito was gored by a bull.
