NORFOLK - Services for Marlin Behrens, 79, of Norfolk will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites being conducted by American Legion Post 16 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1644. Visitations will be 3-8 p.m. Friday at Home for Funerals. Mr. Behrens died Monday, June 25, 2007, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Marlin was born on Aug. 4, 1927, at Pierce, the son of Louis and Louise (Pittack) Behrens. He farmed with his family before entering the U.S. Army on Sept. 22, 1950. He received his honorable discharge on Sept. 23, 1952. In January of 1953, Marlin married Lee Hudmon in Plainview. They farmed east of Plainview until 1958, when they moved to Grand Rapids, Minn. There Marlin was employed by the University of Minnesota agriculture department. In 1961, they moved to Norfolk where Marlin was employed by the Norfolk Public Schools. Later, in 1967, Marlin began his career with Northeast Community College. He retired as the supervisor of physical plant in August of 1992. Marlin also served as maintenance engineer at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. On Oct. 15, 1988, Marlin married Esther Christiansen Clausen. He is survived by his wife and his children, Stephen and Sandy Behrens of Beaumont, Texas, David and Janet Behrens, of Denver, Colo., Michael and Cindy Behrens of Norfolk, Lori and Darrell Kohmetscher of Lincoln and Melissa and Donald Harlow of Norfolk; 25 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Margaret and Jim Broekemeier of Osmond, Donald and Lu Behrens of Norfolk, Kathleen and Orville Broekemeier of Norfolk, and Dale and Ann Behrens of Carroll. Marlin was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one sister.
