Ida was one of six victims of the fire that gutted the Germantown Community Centre, Haines and Morton Streets in Germantown's Little Italy section.
She was one of six girls who were trapped on a metal balcony on the third-floor of the building. The balcony was enclosed by wire mesh which, incidentally, was put there to keep the children from falling into the street.
Firefighters scrambled to cut the wire but by the time they did the girls were overcome with smoke and suffered severe burns over more than half their little bodies.
Thousands of people went to the victims homes to pay their respects and thousands more lined the streets of Chelten Avenue in Germantown for their funerals.
The other five victims of the fire were: Frances Pifani, Genevieve Di Pompeo, Mary Di Tommaso, Mary Dima, and Sylvia Bressi.
