Ardmore — Funeral Services for C.D. "Red" Akers are scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Craddock Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Gardner officiating. A Masonic graveside service will follow in Lone Grove Cemetery.
Red was born August 20, 1930, in Woodford, Okla., to Lewis and Bertha Hill Akers. He passed this life on October 9, 2010, in the local hospital. Red and Pat McCage were married July 18, 1974, in Carson City, Nevada. He worked as a realtor for 23 years, for Enoch Watterson and Francis Realty and was a member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church.
Red spent many years overseas serving his country in the U.S. Army and working in the Oil Industry. He has been active in the Mason's for 53 years and was also involved in the Shiners. Red was a wonderful husband, Dad, Papa and a great friend to many people. Red's friends said he was a walking history book and that he never met a stranger. Red had a special little Daschund that was his baby girl named Hannah.
Red is survived by his wife, Pat of the home; children, Mark and Latrica Akers of Ardmore, Marilynn and Kirk Bender of Denver, Colo., Chuck and Jerri Akers of Aledo, Texas, Kenettia and Tom Adams of Kingston, Billy and Ellen McCage of Ardmore, Lesa and Steve Adams of Wynnewood, Okla., Jan and Tommy Davis of Weatherford, Texas, Chucky McCage of Ardmore, Cathy and Jay Norton of Kingston, Okla.; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Red was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ruth Hudson and Pat Barrs; four brothers, G.B., Andy, Pete and Little Red Akers.
His grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Johnny and Christopher Denney, Joey and Scotty Adams, Jay Don Norton, C.R. Pruett, Mark Weaver.
