He was brought up in Watertown, CT, where his family were some of the most prominent in the town, his mother being quite a presence until elderly. They lived in the big white house on the green and he had one brother named Scovill McLean Buckingham, otherwise known as "Uncle Mac." His wedding to Miss Agnes Deforest Curtiss was quite an affair in Watertown of 1905. He apparently was a "manufacturer" as listed on his marriage certificate, but his death certificate lists him as a salesman. A newspaper article describes The Watertown Manufacturing Company being formed by him and some partners to manufacture articles from metals, silk, bone, wood and chemicals, but not sure the accuracy. I'm told that the company was actually formed by the Scovill Family. The Scovills and Buckinghams are intertwined. The Watertown Mfg. Co. developed and produced the line of "Watertown Ware" Melmac plastic dishware that was popular nationwide in the 1950s. He is described as a fun-loving man by his children, always willing to go sledding or participate in whatever game was being played at the time. He was sick only three months and succumbed to liver cancer very quickly at a rather young age, leaving his wife to raise their children into adulthood. He is remembered fondly by all who have told me about him as a very social man with a wonderful sense of humor. His children were Anne Goss Lindeke, John Deforest, Elizabeth Murray Buckingham Howard and Agness Curtiss Buckingham Snowdon (Nancy).
