Ignacy Zakrzewski Rites Held Friday
Pioneer Florian Resident Died at St. Paul on October 21st; Six Children Survive
Funeral rites for Ignacy Zakrzewski, a pioneer resident of the Florian community, were held at Assumption church on Friday morning, October 25th, with Rev. Wisniewski, pastor of the church, conducting the requiem mass in the presence of a large gathering of old time friends and neighbors of the deceased.
Mr. Zakrzewski’s death occurred at St. Paul on Monday, October 21, following an illness of several months. He had been bedridden for the past seven months, suffering from cancer, and three months ago he submitted to surgery at the University Hospital in the hope of staying the dread disease. He rallied for a time following the operation, but succumbed on October 21st after a valiant fight for recovery. He had made his home in St. Paul a major portion of the time for the past ten years, and had been employed as a janitor in one of the state office buildings in that city.
Ignacy Zakrzewski was born July 13, 1876, at Detroit, Mich., the son of Frank and Antoinette Zakrzewski. At his death he was in his 71st year. He spent his boyhood in Detroit, moving later with his parents to Ashton, Nebraska, where the family resided for a time before moving to Marshall county about fifty years ago. The senior Zakrzewskis engaged in farming east of Argyle after coming to this section. Mr. Zakrzewski married Miss Katherine Przybylski at Florian about 41 years ago, and engaged in farming thereafter near Argyle. Mr. and Mrs. Zakrzewski later moved to the Florian community, where Mr. Zakrzewski operated a store for nearly twenty-five years before establishing a real estate business in Stephen which he operated for a number of years. He was a man of unusually pleasant disposition, and his friends throughout the area were legion. Six children were born to the Zakrzewskis, all of whom survive their father’s passing. Mrs. Zakrzewski passed away four years ago, May 21, 1942.
The surviving children are Zigmond and Ignacy Jr., of Stephen; Marie (Mrs. Joseph Fehn) of Minneapolis; Clarence, of Minneapolis; Theresa, of Minneapolis; and Valeria of Los Angeles, Cal. To these sorrowing survivors, friends throughout the Stephen community extend their most sincere sympathy.
