Martha "Patsy" Gill was born about 1781 [in Virginia, or Kentucky, or???], one of four daughters [including Sally] known to have been born to (and named in the 1804 will of) William Gill (1750-1804). In February of 1800 she married Elisha Roberts in Green County, Kentucky, and they had nine children. The family moved in 1811 from Green County, Kentucky, to the northern part of St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana (later Washington Parish). In January of 1824 Patsy and Elisha settled their family near the site of present San Augustine. Frequent guests in her home included the likes of Sam Houston, James Bowie, David Crockett, William B. Travis, and Stephen F. Austin. Her husband died October 3, 1844, and Patsy died a year later on December 18, 1845; both were buried near their home. In 1936 a Texas Centennial marker was erected at the site if their home as well as at their burial location. tshaonline.org
