Lewis E. Ackley, aged 81 years, for the past 18 years a resident of Portland, passed away Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Robinson, on the west side of the river, following ailments incident to old age.

Funeral services will be held at the Congregational church, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, in charge of Rev. W. L. Moore. Burial will be made in the Portland cemetery.

Mr. Ackley was born at Plymouth, Vermont, November 21, 1844. When 17 years of age he enlisted in the Civil war, gaining a reputation as a sharp shooter during that struggle.
