Professional Football Player. Popularly known as "Big Daddy," he became a legendary NFL defensive tackle. A star at Miller High School in Detroit, he played no college football, but was discovered at the Marine Corps Camp Pendleton and signed with the Los Angeles Rams. He played in LA from 1953-1955. From 1956-1960 he played for the Baltimore Colts and finished his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing from 1961-1962. The 6'6" 288 pound tackle was named outstanding lineman in the 1963 Pro Bowl. Lipscomb used to kid about his technique as a defensive lineman, indicating that he would grab a handful of players from the other team, then sort through them until he found the ball carrier. He died from a heroin overdose in 1963 at the age of 31.
