Henry died at Seguin Hospital, but was residing in McQueeney, Guadalupe Co., Texas prior to his death.

Note on surname: The family seems to have changed the spelling of the surname after arrival in Texas. Henry and most of his siblings all seem to have spelled the name Mertz, while his parents, William and Louisa, continued to spell it Merz.
