WILLIAM L. "BILL" ARENSBERG
(May 9, 1947 - October 2, 2010)

William L. "Bill" Arensberg, 63, resident of Atchison, KS, passed away October 2, 2010.

Bill was born May 9, 1947 the son of William E. and Corinne Lassen Arensberg in Atchison, Kansas.

He attended St. Benedict's Elementary School, graduating from Maur Hill Prep School in 1965. He then attended and graduated from St. Benedict's College, now Benedictine College. He then moved to San Francisco, California where he attended and graduated with honors from the San Francisco School of Mortuary Science. He was the recipient of the Mu Sigma Alpha Award from the National Association of Colleges of Mortuary Science in recognition of outstanding academic proficiency. Bill returned to Atchison, KS where he served under the direction of Jay Dyer at the former Sawin and Dyer Funeral Home. In June of 1971 he purchased the Harouff-Buis Funeral Home and in 1984 he and Galen H. and Sharon M. Pruett formed a partnership group as co-owners of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with continuous operation until September of 2009 when the three partners incorporated the business. Mr. Arensberg served as President of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Inc until the time of his death. Mr. Arensberg was a member of St. Benedict's Church, Atchison, Kansas, the Knights of Columbus Council #723, the William T. Jochems General Asembley of the Fourth Degree of Knights of Columbus, the Atchison Lions Club and was a member of the Masonic Lodge formerly serving as the master of the lodge, a member of Kansas Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. Bill, an accomplished organist and musician, served as the church organist for Sacred Heart Church of Atchison for many years, additionally he was the accompanist for numerous funeral services and weddings throughout his career. Bill dedicated his life to the field of service in mortuary science as a mentor to numerous young people who became interested in his profession. He enjoyed traveling both domestically and foreign, especially his numerous trips during the years to Las Vegas where he challenged the "one arm bandits".

Bill is survived by his daughter, Nicole (Paul) Howard, Myrtle Beach, SC, a brother, Kenneth Arensberg, San Jose, CA, a granddaughter, Emily Howard, Myrtle Beach, SC, and his close family of many years the co-owners and entire staff of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral home and his four foster kittens, Trocar, Button, Boo and Midnight, just four of many stray animals he would take in or look out for.

He was predeceased by his parents, William E. and Corinne Arensberg and his beloved snauzer, Rudy.

Services to be held on Friday, October 08, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict's Church with Rev. Gerard Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish and Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 7th at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict's Church or Atchison Humane Society and may be left in care of the funeral home.
