Early settlers of this southeast Carroll County community brought with them a desire to have their children educated. So they built what was known as the Spanish Grove School.
Early settlers of Spanish Grove were Edwards, Thompson, Butler, Jimmy Jones, James & Thomas McAuley and Jusha Butler.
The school was established in 1879. It consisted of a one room log housewith a stick - and-dirt chimney for the large fireplace which provided the heat, one window with wooden shutters and seats made from split logs.
