WALLA WALLA — Pendleton resident Dona "Nona" Baird, 55, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3 at Mount Hope Cemetery in College Place, Wash.

Mrs. Baird was born May 25, 1955, in St. Joseph, Mich., to Don and Jean Wade Christian. She came to College Place at a young age and lived in the area off and on through the years, spending the last 30 years in Pendleton. She graduated from Gem State Academy in Caldwell, Idaho, and attended Walla Walla University, Blue Mountain Community College and online courses in accounting through the University of Phoenix.

In 1980, she and Jerry Baird married in College Place. She worked as a bus driver for Midco Bus System, retiring last December due to her health.

Mrs. Baird is survived by her husband at home; daughter Jeanette Baird of Pendleton; sons Brendan Schander of Omaha, Neb., and Jerald Baird of Walla Walla; mother and stepfather Jean and Harold Carlton of Portland, Tenn.; stepmother Marilyn Christian of Walla Walla; brothers Donny Christian of Hermiston and Jimmy Christian of Walla Walla; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Don Christian.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dona Baird Memorial Fund at Community Bank in Pendleton, a portion of which will go to the Pendleton Seventh-day Adventist Church through Community Bank, P.O.
