A retired farmer and carpenter, he was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, the AARP and the Ellis Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, LeRoy, Hays; five daughters, Mary Jane Pfannenstiel, Hays, Rose Brungardt, Richardson, Texas, Betty Mermis, Overland Park, Linda Mermis, Lenexa and Karen Amrein, Ellis; two brothers, Lawrence, Ellis, and Fred, WaKeeney; three sisters, Stella Augustine, Rose Augustine and Bertha Lang, Ellis; 21 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe, a sister, Catherine Wolf, and two grandchildren.
Services were April 7 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays, with Father Bill Surmeier and Dan Scheetz officiating; burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Hays Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
