Edward "Eddie" B. Augustine, 76, died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at his home in Hays. He was born Feb. 4, 1921 at Ellis, the son of John and Regina Schuster Augustine.

He worked for IGA Food Store for 23 years and then was produce manager at Boogarts Supermarket for 13 years. He also managed concessions at the Drive In Theater for many years. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, life member of VFW, the American Legion and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1325. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On April 11, 1945 he married Alberta Billinger at Victoria. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Sharon Basso and Becky Quigley, both of Hays, and Wanda Honeywell of St. Louis, Mo.; three brothers, Paul and William, both of Ellis, and Johnny of Salina; three sisters, Thresia Scheck, Dorothy Weber and Betty Jean Younger, all of Ellis; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary and Rosie; and five brothers, Philip, Joseph, Matthew, Clarence and Francis.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, with Father Don Zimmerman presiding. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. today at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Hays. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, with military honors conducted by the VFW and American Legion.

Memorial has been established with Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
