Schnurr, Anton (July 26, 1841-Feb. 8, 1913 –husband of Gertrude Schluessel [married Jan. 7, 1868 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton] –after the death of Gertrude on Dec. 13, 1868, Anton re-married to Mary Burgert [married Aug. 29, 1870 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton] –son of Bernard Schnurr and Anna Elster –stepson of Franz Noworatzky [1799-1874] –born at Carlsbad, Austria –immigrated to the US on the boat Elise and Mathilde departing from the Port of Bremen, Germany, arriving in the Port of New York on Dec. 6, 1858 in company of his mother, his sister Magdalena, plus his half-siblings Franz and Joseph Noworatzky –served in the Union Army during the Civil War –shoemaker, operated a shoe store in St. Nazianz for many years –likely learned this trade from his stepfather, Franz Noworatzky –on Feb. 1, 1866 purchased 80 acres of the S1/2 of the SE1/4 of Section 27 Town of Eaton –on April 25, 1866 sold the western 24 acres of this land to his brother-in-law John Leichtnam and his wife Magdalena Schnurr –on May 11, 1870 sold the southern 28 acres of these 80 to John Reiland and sold the remaining 28 acres to Wendelin Meyer –on Jan. 13, 1870 purchased the former communal house at 110 South Second Avenue in St. Nazianz and used this building as his residence and cobbler shop –Anton lived in this house until his death in 1913 –his widow Mary continued to live here until her death in 1937 –from March 21, 1881 to May 1, 1885 owned the 40 acres of the NW1/4 of the NE1/4 of Section 27, Town of Eaton –died from “paralysis –bronchitis”) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 3, Row 1, Lot 19 –stone] [first marriage record Manitowoc 4-29] [second marriage record Manitowoc 4-41] [death record Manitowoc 11-744]
