Bessie M. Bogina, 98, of Girard died at 10:26 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home at Frontenac, Kansas.
Mrs. Bogina was born December 13, 1911 at Mulberry, Kansas the daughter of Momie and Flossie Russell Brunk. Bessie was a homemaker and also school teacher. She lived in rural Girard prior to moving to Girard in 1994. She was raised in rural Arcadia and attended Second Valley Grade School and graduated from Arma High School in 1931. She later attended Pittsburg State University and received her teaching certificate. She taught school at Polk District #75 and Hadley School for 12 years. She also worked at the Crawford County Clerks Office and the Census Bureau. Bessie married Frank Bogina on February 10, 1934 at Lamar, Missouri. Mr. Bogina preceded her in death on January 28, 1993. She served as a precinct committeewoman for the Republican Party for 15 years. She was a member of A.A.R.P. and the Girard Grange. Survivors include a sister, Lorene Honsicker of rural Pittsburg and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven sisters, Gladys Engle, Pauline Wickham, Bortie Dziadula, Wilma Brunk, Dolly Brunk, Lena Hoover and Ethel Clayton, and two brothers, Delbert Brunk and Momie L. Brunk Jr.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010 at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma with the Rev. Steve Cole officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery at Pittsburg. Friends may call 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Bedene Chapel at Arma. The family suggests memorials to the Mirza Shrine Transportation Fund.
