ARVIL LESTER ALTIS
Arvil Lester Altis, the son of Addison and Elsie Altis was born April 14, 1904
near Cabool, Missouri. He passed away March 22, 1972 making his age at the time of
death 67 years, 11 months and eight days.
He spent his entire life time in Texas County. He attended school in Houston,
graduating in 1924, later attending the Missouri University, graduating in 1931. He taught
school for many years and also was a well known farmer in the Solo community.
He was united in marriage to Madge West in 1927, and one daughter was born.
Surviving are his devoted companion, Madge of the home, one daughter, Berniece
Hollenbeck of Bucyrus, one brother, Earnest of Houston, four sisters, Esther Lily, Blanche
Mueller and Fern Fogg all of Houston and Beulah Thieman of Higginsville, Missouri. He
is also survived by four granddaughters, Elaine, Karen, Carla and Kathy. He was
preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lloyd and Ray. He gave his heart to
Christ many years ago, uniting with the New Hope Baptist Church at Solo remaining a
member until his passing.
He will be remembered in the community as a good neighbor and friend and will
be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 25, in First Baptist Church in
Houston, Rev. Kendall Ford officiating. Burial was in Pine Lawn Cemetery under
direction of Elliott-Gentry.
