Mrs. Evie Phillips Roney Hughes, 88, wife of the late Pete D. Hughes, of Stapleton, Georgia, entered into rest Monday, June 5, 1972, at a Louisville, Georgia hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Stapleton Baptist Church with the Revs. J.E. Cook and Kennedy Raley officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Kilgore, Walter Stapleton, James Lee Hobbs, S.M. Kitchens, Ray Williford and Willis Phillips. Mrs. Hughes was a native of Glascock County and a member of Stapleton Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Pete D. Hughes, Stapleton, and Thomas S. Roney, Midway Park, N.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Claude (Alma) Thigpen, Greenwood, S.C., and Mrs. Lee Roney, Winter Park, Florida; one sister, Mrs. Paul Stephens, Stapleton, Ga. S.A. Blanchard Funeral Home.
