Viola Ammondson, 90, a lifetime resident of Whidbey Island, died at Whidbey Island Manor on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Ammondson was born in Oak Harbor on April 9,1910, to John Reinstra and Wilhelmina (Verhage) Reinstra. She attended Oak Harbor schools. She married Harry VanNieuwenhuise; Mr. VanNieuwenhuise preceded her in death on June 14, 1979. In June 1980, she married Sidney E. Ammondson. The couple moved to Greenbank and returned to Oak Harbor in 1987. She was a member of South Whidbey Grange, Senior Services Foundation of Whidbey Island Endowment Club and Senior Services of Island County.
Mrs. Ammondson is survived by four children, Lorraine , Elizabeth,& Janice and John ; 11 grandchildren, more than 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Sellman; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Harry VanNieuwenhuise; sisters Jennie Goodwin, Theresa Bellows and Josephine Achtemach; and brothers Edward, John Cecil and George Reinstra.
