Obituary - Elfie Bean Boyle, 101, of Provo, Utah, died Thursday, September 9, 1993 of causes incident to age.
She was born April 17, 1892 in Lindon, Utah to James William and Pauline Hardy Bean. She married Clarence S. Boyle September 20, 1916 in the Salt Lake Temple. He died June 8, 1971. Mrs. Boyle graduated from the BYU Normal School in 1912 and taught school in Heber, Utah; Alamo, Nevada; and Provo City Schools. She subsequently pursued a career in retailing in New York City, N.Y., Cheyenne, Wyoming; Denver, Colorado; and Provo, where she managed a ladies' ready-to-wear store.
Mrs. Boyle was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities, including Relief Society president and teacher; YMIA president and counselor; Sunday School teacher and member of the stake Primary board.
She was engaged in civic and educational activities, serving as president of BYU Women; president of The Ladies' Literary Club; member of the original chapter of The Alice Louise Reynolds Club, twice serving as president of the organization. She was also a member of the Provo City Library Board and of The BYU Alumni Emeritus Club.
Mrs. Boyle is survived by one daughter and two sons, Norma (Mrs. Fred M.) Sorenson, Portland, Oregon; Mark K. Boyle, St. George, Utah; and Richard R. Boyle, Salt Lake City; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a daughter, Elayne B. Hofmann, preceded her in death as did one sister, Josephine B. Schofield and four brothers, J. Horace, C. Sterling, Milo and Marcus H. Bean.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 13, 1993 11 a.m. at the Berg Mortuary Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary Sunday, from 6-8 p.m. or Monday one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
