H. G. WOOD was the son of Thomas and Mary Ann (Dykeman) Wood of Danbury CT. The family migrated to Illinois then Iowa and, finally, Round Rock, Texas. H.G. married Annie Marie Dooley of Kilkenney Ireland in Round Rock on 10AUG1891, and started his family there before moving to Cuero and then Seguin Texas. He established and edited newspapers along the way. H.G. and Annie Marie retired to San Diego CA in 1912, leaving the newpaper business to their sons.
H.G.'s mother, Mary Ann Dykeman Wood, died and is buried in Round Rock TX. His father, Thomas, accompanied the family to San Diego, California where he lived out his remaining life.

The next day they went into the shop to find out who the man was - Horace Greeley Wood." And, yes, she got her wish; the two were wed and had six very interesting children

Lawmen had pursued Bass to that site, and Wood was on hand nearby to write the original story about the incident."

"Horace Greeley Wood, age 71, of 4111 Eagle Street, a retired newspaper publisher who had resided in San Diego since 1912, died last Thursday night at Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon. Wood had been in the newspaper business for many years, having owned publications at Round Rock, Cuero and Seguin Texas. All of his sons are newspaper men.
Besides his wife, Annie Wood, he is survived by three sons, T.V Wood, Long Beach; Howard J Wood, Willets Calif; Lucien Wood, San Diego and two daughters, Mrs C. K. Jackson and Miss Agnes Wood both of San Diego."
