Cleoria Mae Hancock, 88, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Services will be held 7:30 p.m.; Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Christ United Methodist Church- 14506 East 39th Street, Independence, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the church preceding the service. Burial will be 11:00 a.m.; Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at the Half Rock Cemetery in Half Rock, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Kansas City Hospice- 9221 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114, Christ United Methodist Church-14506 East 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055, or Samaritan's Purse- P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000.

Mae was born May 18, 1922 in Trenton, MO to Chester and Cleta (Rhoades) Garriott. After the passing of her mother at a very young age, Mae was raised by her loving stepmother: Opal Garriott. On June 4, 1940 Mae married the love of her life; Lowery C. Hancock. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Independence, MO. She worked for Women's World clothing store, loved bowling, coaching bowlers and to watch all of her grandchildren play sports and dance.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Chester and Cleta Garriott; a step-mother: Opal Garriott, and her husband: Lowery C. Hancock.

Her survivors include five sons: Larry Hancock and wife Ann, of the home; Mike Hancock and wife Charlotte of Raymore, MO, Doug Hancock and wife Fran of River Ridge, LA, Barry Hancock of Bowling Green, MO, and Steve Hancock and wife Cindy of Independence, MO; one daughter: Janice Holland of Bates City, MO; one sister: Betty Ivy and husband Jack of Montrose, PA; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
